Building Bridges

The Legacy We Leave Our Children

kidscover

After documenting seven areas along the Gulf Coast for a year during the Gulf Oil Spill and recovery, it became obvious that the group left out of all discussions was children. In answer to this, Simone Lipscomb wrote, illustrated and published a children's book that tells the story of the Gulf Coast Oil Spill in a simple and understandable way for children of all ages.

"We are failing our children and grandchildren when we refuse to take action to better our world--their world. It is time to do something positive for the Earth on a daily basis by respecting the planet, honoring our youth, and helping each other. Each helpful action we take to better our world is an investment in children and teens."

The environmental disaster that happened on the Gulf Coast is not an isolated event. Let us learn from past mistakes and move forward with hope, love and commitment to act daily to make a difference.

A few things we can do:

--Stop to consider the consequences of our actions--if I choose to do this, what will be the result.

--Patronize environmentally-conscious businesses.

--Join an ocean clean-up group for regular shore cleanups.

--Eat only sustainable seafood.

--Keep old fishing line, plastic bags and other trash out of the water.

Simone speaks to elementary, middle and high school students and other groups interested in helping the planet. To order The Gulf Oil Spill Story visit the Books page.
